Latin Name: Rosmarinus Officinalis. Part of Plant Used: Flowering Tops. Source: Tunisia. Extraction Method: Steam Distillation. Rosemary Essential Oil is steam-distilled from the flowers, stems, and leaves of the plant. The oil from the flowering tops is considered superior, according to the British Pharmacopoeia, although most commercial oils are distilled from the stems and leaves. The aroma of rosemary essential oil is woody and herbal, often used in aromatherapy to refresh and stimulate the mind. This oil can help treat various conditions, including wounds, burns, colds, flu, fatigue, digestive issues, headaches, asthma, bronchitis, gout, rheumatism, liver and gall bladder problems, water retention, and poor circulation. For massages, it is commonly blended with base oils such as almond, apricot kernel, or hazelnut oil. Rosemary oil is also beneficial for hair, promoting circulation to the scalp and encouraging hair growth. However, it should never be used internally, and it is advised to avoid it if you are pregnant or suffer from high blood pressure or epilepsy. Rosemary has a long history of use, with ancient cultures believing it enhanced memory. It became a symbol of fidelity, commonly used in weddings, funerals, and religious ceremonies. A sprig of rosemary, often tied with ribbons, was given to wedding guests as a symbol of love and loyalty. 'Hungary water,' made by soaking fresh rosemary in wine, was created for the Queen of Hungary and is said to have cured her paralysis.
